Last Week Before the Summer Holidays

This week went by pretty fast. This is the last week before the students are officially on their summer holidays. Well, on Monday the English department had a wonderful dinner organized at a restaurant - buffet style! I ate like a pig because it had a great variety and I wanted to make sure I got my money's worth. It was 27,000 wons per person ($27) and the money was pooled together by the entire department. I certainly will be treating them as soon as my 1st paycheck comes in but it will be after the summer holidays. Oh, I took a picture of the buffet and a picture of a plate with some of the desserts (not mine). All of the food pics of my own are on Facebook, if you haven't noticed already eh.

I got my ARC (Alien Registration Card) approval on Monday so I went on Tuesday to get them to photocopy my passport and on Wednesday I picked up the ARC certificate. The government building was close by to the school and to E-Mart, so the travel wasn't bad. With the ARC, I immediately got my Internet the next day (Thursday). However, the Internet set-up was not done correctly so I had to call the person in again on Friday. Now the Internet is running smoothly and fast! Next, I need to see if I can get a Korean SIM card for my iPhone 3G and order MagicJack so I can call people back home in Toronto.

On Thursday, after being disappointed with the Internet set-up, I decided to re-organize my room to make it more spacious and efficient. You can see my previous room set up from the "Busan: The New Home" Sunday, June 26th posting. Let me know if the set-up is any better. I decided to move the red futon from the spare room to the main room and moved the random table with the microwave out of the way. I also moved one of the tables to the corner so I can place the TV on it. It was difficult watching the TV when it was on the floor. Now I can lay in bed and not have half the TV cut off from the bed's edge.

Oh today, two of the students gave me something quite adorable. An invitation for a party! I was amused and excited that it was written in English and included singers and groups that they have heard of.

During my prep and breaks I have been listening to K-Pop (Korean Pop music)! I was interested in K-Pop about 3 years ago thanks to BoA (Best of Asia)'s song "I Did It For Love"! She's a famous Korean pop singer who dances crazy good. You can YouTube some of her videos after reading this post. Anyways, after she got me hooked onto K-Pop I started to listen to other singers and groups such as Wonder Girls, 2NE1, and SNSD. I heard of UKiss thanks to my friend Samar as well! For the past few weeks, I have added more songs and new groups to my iPhone playlist! Songs include: "Bang!" from After School, "Bad Girl" from Beast, "Copy & Paste" from BoA, "Hot Summer" from FX, "Ring Ding Dong" from SHINee, "Roly Poly" from T-ara, "Supa Luv" from Teen Top, "Mirotic" from TVXQ, "I Am The Best" from 2NE1, "Hands Up" from 2PM and "Heartbeat" also from 2PM. I will be listening to more K-Pop now that I am actually in Korea! Well off to eat something now. I will type out a new post on Sunday, until then "Kamsamnida"!

  1. Songs are a great way to get the sound of a language and to learn vocabulary. When I was learning Hindi, Bollywood songs helped a lot for that. If you want to learn some Korean, this is a great way to do it... :-)

And yes, the new arrangement looks better. Good to have the tv where you can lay back and relax while watching! :-)

  2. Yeah, I really do like Korean, Hindi, Tamil and some English songs! The new arrangements make my room even bigger than it already is.
